Disability Accommodations

Support of the ADA Act of 1990

Luther Rice College & Seminary supports the tenets and spirit of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.  Luther Rice students are responsible for informing the institution of any disabilities, physical and/or mental, which might in any way affect the student’s academic progress.  We will make reasonable accommodations to meet the needs of any student with a disability in order to prevent discrimination based on the student’s need.

Disability Accommodation Request Form

Qualified individuals with disabilities are encouraged to inform Luther Rice by completing a Disability Accommodation Request Form. The Luther Rice Student Services department will review the request and supporting documentation. Upon review, the student will be provided a decision and an accommodation plan if approved.

According to Section 504, individuals with disabilities are defined as:

Persons with a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more major life activities. People who have a history of, or who are regarded as having a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, are also covered. Major life activities include caring for one's self, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, working, performing manual tasks, and learning.1

Luther Rice is required to take reasonable steps and make reasonable accommodations for a student’s disability unless it would cause the institution undue financial and/or administrative hardship.

A Disability Accommodation Request Form, as well as medical documentation from a qualified professional to support the request for accommodation, must be completed and returned to the Luther Rice Student Services Department for accommodations to be considered.
