Dr. Scruggs is a native of Nashville, Tennessee where she was raised in a strong Christian family. As a child, Scruggs had significant spiritual markers and at age 11 decided to submit her life to the lordship of Christ. In undergraduate school at Middle Tennessee State University, her involvement in a local church radically enhanced her Christian walk, her commitment to the ministry of God and to the building up of His kingdom. It was then that she surrendered to His call for the ministry of teaching, mentoring, missions, counseling, and serving the Deaf community. After completing her B.S. degree, Dr. Scruggs went on to obtain an Associates in American Sign Language Interpreting. Dr. Scruggs also holds an M.A. in marriage and family counseling and a Ph.D. in psychology and counseling in which her dissertation research was Exploring the Psychological and Emotional Well-Being of Deaf Adults in America. Along with a Sign Language Interpreting degree, Scruggs is a Nationally Certified Interpreter and a Qualified Mental Health Interpreter. She has been providing therapy to both deaf and hearing individuals, families and couples for over 10 years. She serves with her church in the community through mentoring students in a local school.
