Marcus Merritt was raised in a Southern Baptist Church and accepted Christ at the age of ten. At the age of twenty-one, he accepted another call from the Lord; to serve Christ in vocational ministry. 

Merritt now serves as the Program Coordinator for the Doctor of Ministry Program, and as the Director of Ministry Relations.

Previously, he served as a missionary with the Georgia Baptist Mission Board, the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, and (concurrently) with the North American Mission Board. Marcus has also served as senior pastor of churches in Georgia and Alabama. 

Marcus and his wife, Michelle, have three children and five grandchildren.
