David Casas and his parents came to the U.S. in 1974 from Spain, after his parents fled the Communist regime in Cuba, and have lived in Georgia for over forty-five years.  His father was a pastor and church-planter of a local Spanish-speaking congregation.  Casas was born again at an early age and served most of his young life at the local church his father pastored.

After graduating from Georgia State University with a degree in History, Casas taught high school students a variety of history, economics and political science courses, coached the Speech and Debate team and the Model United Nations team, and trained teachers at the Southern Center for International Studies.  In March 2002, he was recognized as one of the year’s Star Teacher’s in Cobb County.

In 2002, Casas was elected Georgia’s first Latino Republican legislator.  He served eight terms (16 years) in the Georgia House of Representatives. During his tenure, he served on a variety of standing committees and sponsored various pieces of legislation, including the state’s first school choice measures.  In 2008, he received the honor of being name the Legislator of the Year by the American Legislative Exchange Council.

In 2010, Casas was appointed President of Berea School of Ministry in Atlanta, a Bible institute for Spanish-speaking ministers, which he helped found.  He came on staff at Luther Rice in the summer of 2011 as Assistant to President Flanagan and now as the Bachelor of Arts Program Coordinator and Associate Professor of Old Testament Literature.

Casas and his wife, Ann, have two children and gather at Christ Covenant Church in Atlanta.  He was ordained to the ministry in 1993 and graduated from Luther Rice Seminary in 2010 with a Master of Arts degree and in 2012 with a Master of Divinity degree.  He earned his Ph.D. in Old Testament and Hebrew at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2017.
